Folding the Peek-a-Pouch into its pocket

Follow these simple instructions to fold the sling into the pocket. Please note that the pocket should be inside (not outside as shown). It is taken out to give you an indication of where it is and where to fold.

1. Lay sling flat

2. Fold in from the sides, matching the sides of the pocket

3. Fold 1/3 of sling towards the pocket as shown

4. Fold the into half, just reaching the pocket

5. Slide one hand into the pocket and hold on to the seams at the bottom of the pocket

6. Still holding on to the seam and catching the sling, turn the pocket inside out to contain the sling

7. Voila! Done. Diaper bag friendly!

** The sling might have light creases when you open it out. However, ironing is not necessary most of the time as fabric will be stretched crease-less once you use it.

Putting on your Peek-a-Pouch

Fold your Peek-a-Pouch into half, lengthwise.

With opening facing up and the seam (i.e. where the stitches are) in front of you, slide one hand in and out of the Peek-a-Pouch, resting it on the opposite shoulder.

The folded opening creates a 'seat' to seat your baby securely in your desired carrying position.

Adjust the seam according to the preferred carrying position (e.g. in line with the belly button for cradle carry, near the side for hip carry etc.)

Peek-a-Pouch - Cradle Carry

Imitates time in the womb. Best for newborns and smaller babies.

Place pouch seam in line with belly button.
Cradle baby with one hand.

Open pouch with your other hand.

Place baby’s bottom in the pouch first.

When baby's bottom is securely in and baby is comfortable, gently place baby's head in.

You can also nurse discreetly by pulling the fabric that lies against your breast aside, with the outer fabric still covering baby’s head.

Variation:

Baby's head can also be positioned on the opposite shoulder (from the one you are wearing your Peek-a-Pouch with) to give more room. Please note that this requires the babywearer to support the baby's head with his/her hand.

Please note: NOT ALL BABIES like the cradle position as they might feel hot/constricted. If your baby is one who does not even like being cradled with bare hands (i.e. without a carrier), they usually will not like being cradled in a pouch, too! i.e. Carriers are to imitate the comfort of hand carry so if baby likes to be in the sitting position when you carry them with your hands, try to do that with your Peek-a-Pouch, too ;)

Peek-a-Pouch - Kangaroo Carry

Babies love to peek out to the world as they feel the warmth of their carer!

Place pouch seam in line with belly button. Carry baby facing forward. Cross baby’s legs, as though sitting on the floor and slowly support baby with just one hand.

Open pouch with your other hand. Place baby in the pouch facing forward.

Pull up the front fabric to cover your baby's legs. Baby can be right in the middle, more to the left or more to the right, whichever is more comfortable.

Best time for baby to start with this position is when baby is about 3-4 months' old with neck control. Baby will outgrow this position around 6-8 months (depending on baby's size and weight).

Peek-a-Pouch - Tummy to Tummy Carry

Babies love to hear the heartbeat! Good for babies with head control & beyond.

Place pouch seam in line with belly button. Hold your baby on your shoulder with one hand, as though burping him/her. Open pouch with your other hand. Slide baby’s feet through the bottom (straddling your tummy). The seam should be in line with baby’s back. Pull up the front edge of the Peek-a-Pouch, right over baby’s body. Babies’ arms can be in or out. Please take extreme care of grabby babies and surrounding obstacles if arms are out.!

Peek-a-Pouch - Hip Carry

Babies love the flexibility! Great for older babies.

Place the pouch seam towards the side you wish to carry your baby. Carry baby, with him/her facing you. Open pouch with one hand while sliding baby’s feet, one by one, through and out of the bottom of the pouch. Pull up the edge of the pouch snugly behind baby’s back. The seam should be in line with baby’s back. Adjust baby’s legs so they sit frog-legged, with their bottom lower than their knees. You can also start from the Tummy to Tummy Carry position, then slide baby and sling around until he or she is resting on your hip. Babies’ arms can be in or out.

Hip Carry

Peek-a-Pouch - Back Carry

Babies love adventure! Good for cooperative and confident carers. DO NOT use this position with an uncooperative child!

Start from the Hip Carry position, and then slide your little one around until he/she is behind your arm. Adjust the fabric in front until it fits comfortably over your chest. Pull up the edge of the pouch to fit snugly behind little one’s back. The seam should be in line with little one’s back. Adjust baby’s legs so they sit frog-legged, with their bottom lower than their knees. Babies' arms can be in or out.
